TAS line battered & bruised but still in business.

Since last Thursday night Alice Springs has received
over 190mm of rain, this amounts to two thirds the
yearly average. The Stuart Highway South is still
closed until later this week, but the TAS line with
speed restrictions is open.

A northbound Goods was delayed 24 hours over the
weekend but the Ghan arrived in the Alice today at 1045
NT time. The southbound with NR39, 16 cars and 5
motorail flats crammed full of vehicles departed at
1340 local time.

Once again this line has proved to be everything that
the CR/ANR Chief Civil Engineer Des Smith said it would
be, close enough to "all weather".
Very few remember him today, but many have a lot to be
thankful for.
