Those fares look really cheap from this side of the ditch.

Did you not get an income tax reduction when GST came in? Here, when GST
was brought in in 1986, the top income tax rate was dropped from 66
cents in the dollar to 33c and all lower income tax rates were similarly
reduced. Oh, and all sales taxes were abolished.
