*Hang around Sydney Central would be a good idea.
*Go to East Maitland, see the impressive 90 class Hunter Valley coal
trains. (very frequently during weekday, especially around lunch time)
East Maitland is also a great photo spot. On the way to East Maitland
from Sydney you would go through number of bridges, tunnels and
beautiful scenery around Hawkesbury river.
*Zig Zag railway in the Blue Mountains

*BHP railway around Port Kemble, EL class around Port Kemble. Cockatoo
run (Ask for cab ride!!)
*Illawara line itself is VERY scenic all the way to Nowra.
