Wodonga Railway Relocation

In today's Border mail there is a half page picture of four people
jumping with joy, Federal transport Minister has just found $20 Million
to go towards the relocation of the railway line at Wodonga. In the
picture are Mr. Lou Lieberman, Mr. Anderson, Cr. Crapp Wodonga's Mayor
(Who incidentally is one of the driving influences for the internal
freeway through Albury and no railway through Wodonga) and Uncle Ben's
Chief Mr. Bob Kennedy. Mr. Anderson was reported to have said the
decision was based on national objectives that would also meet local
aims. Chief among these was to facilitate high speed freight trains on
the Melbourne-Brisbane route (If that is the reason to remove the
railway line then why not take it along the route selected for the
external bypass if is built avoiding both Wodonga and Albury) Just
another thing is that Wodonga railway station and precinct should be
persevered as it has significant historical value with all the other
inferstucture that has been destroyed in the North East over the past 10
years and this proposal just for the saving of a few minutes
