It really depends on where you will use it and how often. I started with a 10
channel, then grew out of it into a 30 channel and now I have a 400 channel as
well. If you are planning on staying in one spot in the country, a 10 channel
scanner should be ok, but if you are moving around or in a major town/city you
need at least 30 channels. I found the 400 channel scanner I have ("Realistic"
PRO-64) was very good when I went on an interstate trip...
It all depends on how much you want to spend!
