Re: cityrail 10 & 12 car trains

Suburban trains have never run in excess of 8 cars in passenger service that
I'm aware of.

The single deck interurbans certainly ran as 10 car trains to the Blue
Mountains and the Central Coast/Newcastle. These ceased with the
introduction of the January '92 timetable?

There was a time where certain peak Central Coast intercity double deck sets
ran as 10 car trains but only as far as Gosford. Two up trains amalgamated
to 10 cars at Gosford or divided from 10 cars at Gosford on the down. This
occurred in the late 80s early 90s?

The platform works associated with these Central Coast intercity workings
were:
* temporary extensions to certain Sydney Terminal platforms (4 of them
around platform         10?;
* extension of Hornsby's #3 platform (and also #4?);
* extension of both platforms at Woy Woy; &
* extension of Gosford's #3 platform.
