The Station Master has been very busy lately and I
have not had so much spare time to make these reports.
The Peterborough Council has provided a new Station Sign
and attached it to the platform. I am pleased to say that vandalism
has dropped of and Questmead have taken over the Trashed
Crews Quarters, Lesley will be running a Schools camp where
children and there teachers can stay for a few days and hopefully
lean about The Railways, by visiting SteamTown and observing
the train movements as they rattle past on the main East West
line at the rear of the quarters , around $25,000 has been granted
by the State Government which will be used to upgrade the
Quarters to current standards , I wish him good luck in this venture.
SteamTown has been working on the old ex Peterborough loco
"Y-82" . All the rust has been removed by Sandblasting and the
rust patches have been cut out and new metal welded in.
The Steam Engine and Tender are now looking like new in
there Invisible Green pain work, A concrete pad with inset
narrow gauge rails has been poured today , in a car park
next to the Main Street, it seems a shame that the old Engine
has to live out its life as a Play Ground instead of being put back
in Steam, Photos will follow when the loco is in place, hopefully
next week. SteamTowns resident Steam Engine W901 is back
in Steam and ready for the coming season" after three attempts
to seal the dome cover, thanks Mark for a job well done"
which begins with runs over the Easter weekend, I will be looking
after the small museum and will be the Car Captain on a few runs,
which will be my first Steam Trip since crossing the Nullarbor in 1962
, when I went over to join the Regular Army.
Today's Station Report.
The Indian Pacific with an extra long consist arrived at 11:40 CST
Eastbound and Headed by NR103 , and picked up two passengers.
I have been flat out updating my new site on, rrdepot.com in the USA
information is available on Riverton and the Adelaide Red Hens.
Gladstone featuring what is left of the three gauges and Terowie and
the Coal Tippler which was used to transfer Leigh Creek coal from
Narrow gauge to Broad Gauge for the trip to Adelaide.
I will be updating the site every few days please lat me know what
you think, I also have some good Railway yarns and poems
on the Gallery Page.
Yours in The Steam
Robin
