Many thanks for this information.
I suspect that the 9 notch controllers of the X and Y classes are rare. But
there are quite a few gaps in my knowledge in respect of EE loco control
systems, so who knows, there might be others.
More information begets more questions, thus re the Tasrail ZP and ZR locos,
were these reconfigured with EM governors to have 8 discrete engine speeds,
as with GM/GE/Alco practice, or did they revert to the previous EE scheme of
3 (or 4) engine speeds coupled with control of main generator excitation to
obtain the 8 control steps?
