They (Bob White Electrics) do heavy engineering work on stuff like railway traction motors, and apparently marine equipment as well. The T's are used to provide DC current (lots of it!) for testing/running the big electrical
gear. They do go, and plumes of exhaust can be seen often. I am assured (by those involved with the installation) that you could drop them on a set of bogies and away they'd go!

Cheers,
CH.

When I was last there in 93 I went in and asked about the locos. When I told Bob I was interested in the locos his first question was 'Did I want to get parts off them?' as he said he had a lot of enquiries for that reason. When I told him I worked for BHP and was interested in the electrical gear he gave me a tour and explained how it all worked. The Ts are used to provide DC power to a very large motor driving a balancing machine. The balancing machine is used to re-balance rotors from DC motors after they have been re-wound. They do some of the large mill motors for BHP. He also said they were offered a B but it was too long and would have blocked the yard.
Regards,
Chris.
