How about this for a totally-unsubstantiated thought - the 422s currently en
route to SA could release some of the remaining broad and standard gauge
830s and DAs for Port Lincoln, which in turn would release the NJs. I'm not
so sure that they couldn't handle the ore trains, as they already commonly
run triple-headed on grain trains over roller-coaster grades which are more
severe that anything on the BHP lines. Six of them at Whyalla would make a
nice dedicated fleet.
As I said, pure speculation...
