Re: [Ausloco] ATN Ls & WAGR Ls
This is an interesting point regarding the colour scheme. When I first saw
the L's (& the other WA standard gauge fleet) in the early 1970's they were
basically grey in colour with a dark blue band, although I think WAGR did
refer to the colour scheme as two tone blue. I later saw a photo of one of
the last L's being delivered (I think it was L274) at Katoomba and the grey
was now definiately a blue.
When I next visited WA in the mid to late 1970's there were two colours - a
now fading grey and the new blue colours. Naturally the grey disappeared
over time as the units were overhauled and painted. If you are still unsure
of this, have a look at the colour photos in the Annual Reports of the WAGR
in late 1960's and some of the early promo material - you will see what I
mean in relation to the grey colour scheme.
And who could forget the wonderful colour scheme applied to L268 - basically
a dark blue with white and orange relief.
In closing, I have to agree - the L's are a marvellous looking machine.
Regards,
Mark.
