[Ausloco] ATN L's southbound NOW!
At 1738 as I walked from Wodonga Station up the race to board the pilot, I
heard that unusual single chime whistle coming from the direction of Albury.
I thought perhaps my day was on the improve, and just on dusk over High
Street on the 40kph curve came a set of headlights of unusual configuration.
The roar of the turbines was amazing! The crew put on a magnificent show!
and last nights wish was fulfilled much sooner that I could have expected.
Three magnificent 250 series [W.A L's] in the brown and gold came up beside
me in full flight!
All units powering Run 8, no smoke, no misses, just pure EMD howling
through and down the hill towards Wodonga Loop. We sat their until the noise
was lost to the distant freeway. 40 plus brand new hoppers followed along
behind, and I am sure the trembling ground, and noise of the wheels through
the crossover indicated a loaded train. They are not C Classes though. It is
a different sound. Not worse, just their own signature sound. We can only
hope that after National Rail is privatised, the C's will be allowed to
return.
