Moss Vale 26/1/00

Aus loco discussion mailing list

Further to other reports of activity on the main south today, I would
like to add my own observations:

On the way to MSV, I saw the two up freights (6PW4 and 1PS6) described by
Ivar as:
>NR13/NR116/DL49/NR90 (last 2 dead att.) on 6PW4 @ 1121
>NR119/NR95 on 1PS6 @ 1213

At Moss Vale 8181 was stabled in the railmotor dock in case of
eventualities.
14.50 - 8256/81??/8214 came through on a shortish down freight, believed
to be 3BM4 (close to the 15.15 timing of Danny). I now know the centre
unit to be 8145, (ta Ivar!)
15.41 - 8250/8131 Down empty grain , believed to be 9823. The wagons on
this train were all labelled with a spray painted legend 'GT4'. Does this
mean that there are permanent sets of grain wagons in use by Freightcorp
?.
In between these two trains was the late running up Canberra Xplorer. It
spent about 15 minutes stopped at MSV where the crew tried to rectify
what appeared to be a fuel spillage (hoses were in evidence), The train
was also about 20 minutes behind time when it pulled in.
Most of the time was spent rain dodging unfortunately, although I did get
a chance to inspect the Endeavour fuelling point and storage sidings.
Quite impressive. the fuel point is a doosie, with 10,000 litres of
diesel inside.
All in all, I spent a great day at Moss Vale, so thanks again to Danny on
the south, whose timely intelligence got the ball rolling.

Scott
