48s at Botany

Aus loco discussion mailing list

Evening all,
Brain back in gear after day off!
Seen in Botany yard this morning were RSA 4819/4827/4860(Freight Corp)
on a loaded ballast train.
Don't know which of the 2 RSA units was leading, but they were marshalled
back to back with 4860 short hood leading. They were propelling their load
towards the new trackwork leading to the Patricks terminal.
At around 16.30 two sets of back to back 48s 4866/4854 & 48117/48154 were
both on "up" container trains.
Normally 48s are usually with an 80 class, so has there been a change in
loco rostering for these trains?
Does that mean that some 80s have been stored or moved to other traffic?
There appears to be a new timetable in operation for Botany container trains
as I usually don't see any locos on trains on the way to work around 7.30.
Usually they are stabled trains minus locos.
Can anybody assist with this.
Whilst on the Botany subject, there was a National Rail shunt trip that used
to leave Botany between noon & 13.00 on weekdays powered by 442s6 and later
by 442s5.
Since my return to work in Feb I have not seen this train but both days of
this week that I decided to go to work found back to back NRs on a train
that I thought was SB3 but may in fact be the trip train previously
mentioned. Today's power was NR65/NR1.
Would appreciate assistance with this.
Regards
Ivar
