Re: Freight Corp allotments

Aus loco discussion mailing list

To add a few bit's to Ivar's interesting info:
Unfortunately 48152 will not get any paint work at Maintrain. The contract is only for cab upgrading and the Werris Creek hand painted coat of blue is indeed very patchy.
4865 (leased to RSA) is based in Broadmeadow yard.
4842 was initially sent to Lithgow to allow for the release of 7322 and 7334 to CRT. This now leaves 4806 (the loco formerly known as BRUCE) as the last remaining MK1 48 class in operable condition with Freightcorp. Whilst 4806 is officially not in service it is regularly used as the Delec wheel lathe shunter. It is interesting to point out that 4904 is used in the same way.
Hope this is of some interest.

Evening all,
Have obtained a copy of current allotments as at 25/02/2000.

I won't go thru the whole list here as it will take up too much time &
space, but there are a few interesting items;

Listed as being at Maintrain Auburn for cab upgrade- 48121,48152,48160. I
hope they throw some paint at 48152 as last I saw it the yellow undercoat
from years ago was showing thru what was left of the blue.

Listed as "on lease to RSA" 4850 & 4865

Listed as Melbourne runners (my terminology) : 8212-8216. Interestingly,
8216 has been working the Tahmoor push/pull coalies since wednesday 23/2.

Listed as Stored Lithgow : 4842. This unit was previously Lithgow yard
shunter, but I am told that it has been relieved of its traction motors and
electrical cabinet to repair fire damaged 48110, so 4842 will probably not
be restored to traffic or preserved as was the plan. A pity, because it
still has a reasonably good paint job and was the only 48 class I have had a
cab ride in (Christmas Day 1997 from memory).

Listed at RSA Chullora: 4868 (PL3)& 4870 (PL4). Confirmed now, Brad!

Otherwise allotments do not appear to have changed from previous listing
late December 1999.

Whilst posting this message I managed to miss the the 82 class squeak past
on 2138. Can anyone assist with unit number, please?

Hope this is of interest.

Regards
Ivar
