I couldn't make out the numbers either, I was on a horizontal lift 
(suburban) running express NME-ESD-GRY-BMS, so we were going pretty fast.

This is the Apex quarry train (baby version), that runs from Kilmore East, 
to Westall (or similar). It also makes a trip out to Brooklyn. The main 
Apex train has all green (Freight Victoria) wagons, and is about double the 
length. It used to be run by G543, but G543 has since been narrowed (guage 
wise) and sent off to greener pastures (NSW).

The main apex train normally runs with a G these days. Baby Apex trains run 
with anything and everything afaik. Last time I saw it in December it had 
an X up front.

For the main Apex, the only times I know are: 10:50pm down Glenroy on the 
goods line, destination Kilmore East, around about 1am on the up, heading 
to (???) [Though, it's been known to run a lot earlier lately, for the main 
reason that Kilmore East box can switch out earlier - at least that's how 
it was explained to me]. In the morning it runs from Westall to Kilmore 
East, to arrive at Kilmore East at around 11:30-12ish.

Might be better off if someone can post the times for this train.
