The highlight though, was at West Ryde, where BY4, with 3 NR's up front, was refuged on the Up suburban (or is it main ? I can never fathom that Epping-W. Ryde track configuration), to allow 3830 to overtake at speed on the outside track.
If you "can't fathom it", just remember that the mains are the inside
tracks and the suburbans are the outside ones.
Alternatively, remember that it is a relic of the old days when there
were down and up relief lines outside the main lines between Eastwood
and Epping; the mains stayed as mains and the reliefs became suburbans.
