There was apparently room for 5 trams in the down tunnel clear of the
crossover cut through the end of the platform.  That would equate to
around 200', or more like 60 metres.  The Up tunnel was two tram
lengths.

Since the bridge was opened, the North Shore has always had an
intensive suburban service along the lower end.  Until very recently
there was no provision at all for running passes anywhere on the
Shore, so running limited stop country express services along the
Shore, as has happeend when the Main North is closed for some reason,
always leads to timetable disruption for the suburban service.

The Shore also has some of the steepest grades and sharpest curves on
the NSW system and is not well suited to non-EMU rolling stock.
