As it stands now, yes, you are correct. The official excuse is that
there is not enough power.

How ever Technology has developed since they were made.

We have 120 v in the batteries. Couple this with a step up transformers
and you might have enough to run a/c. The other output of a supply set
is 240v which you might be able to do something about.

A good example on how technology has changed is with the chopper and
Tangara cars. Choppers need the motor alternators (415v) to run to get
the choppers working, whilst the tangaras use power supplied by
batteries (120v).

If they can put a/c in track machines and 48's they should be able to do
it with S sets.
