The longest platforms in Australia are today about as
useful as a steam loco on the TAR, they are located
where most of our long pass trains no longer need to
use them.

They are an anachronism from our UK past, they were
never much used in the USA or Continental Europe.

For long distance trains, using steps to good o'l terra
firma works just fine. Arrangements for those unable
to use steps are always available.
