Ringwood Failure and SRV trip

The steamrail trip to Bacchus March was running on time from the empty
cars to RWD this morning (and the run a round of the loco via Mitcham) all
the way to Bacchus Marsh and return, but the signalling system (which is
only 4 months old and cost us $8.7 million) failed. The steam train was
held outside Ringwood for 45 minutes while fitters were called and the
system auto re-booted.

There was a problem with one of the cards in the computer, after a while
the computer auto re-boots, but with a faulty card the system failed again.
I don't know how long before it re-boots, but it takes 4 minutes to re-boot.

Once the train got into platform 3 and a few of the banked up suburban trains
through the system failed again.

The level crossings at Dublin Rd and Bedford Rd were down for an hour and
2 trains were ternimated at Mitcham and a few buses ran between Lilydale
(and Mooroolbark were one of the Up trains was held) and Upper Ferntree Gully
to Mitcham.

The system failed at 1620 and everything was working and fixed by about 1900.

This is not the first time the system has failed, nor will it be the last.
