     Being a Westerner myself, although in the U.S.A., I
understand your point of view, but as a matter of
geographical accuracy a very large percentage of the
population of Canada lies south of the 49th parallel.

     "Dominion of Canada"?  Several decades ago news
stories reported that switchboard operators in Ottawa
had changed from answering "Dominion of Canada" to
"Government of Canada."

     And, of course, I certainly do not consider
myself a Yankee.
