"Liveries in the Landscape"

. A copy of "Liveries in the Landscape" by Arkell, Richards, McInroy and
Anderson arrived off the boat from Australia to day. This book is an
all-color look at Australia's railroads using photos from 4 locomotive
enginemen (as they call themselves). After a brief preface, each state's
chapter begins with a brief introduction which is followed by a selection of
photographs which range from the early 1980s to the present. (CLP 14 appears
in A-S G&W orange scheme, for example) Photos are 2 or 3 to a page, avoiding
the annoying "gutter" problem (which usually disqualifies a book for
purchase, IMHO).

The quality of the photographs is mostly excellent. Australia's mostly dry
climate allows for easy photography without too many of those cruddy days we
in NYC know and hate. Even the photos in Queensland, parts of which have
tropical wx are well lit. This would be a good book for any railfan planning
a trip Down Under to pick up
