Re: Coal over the Blue Mountains

Not an easy question to answer.
There are still three coal mines in the Lithgow area / Western Coalfields which
transport coal by rail, being Baal Bone (the biggest of the three), Clarence
(newly re-opened), and Charbon. Whilst the WTT indicates a number of
conditional coal paths, there are really only four or five regular services
daily, primarily two or three to Baal bone, and one each to Clarence and
Charbon, with others as required. Most trains are 31 wagons in length (and that
means 3100 tonnes gross), though one of the Baal Bones can be increased to 42
(4200 tonnes). They operate to Inner Harbour, near Wollongong / Port Kembla.
Motive power can vary between quad 86's, to triple 86's, to triple diesels,
depending on load and destination. Times can vary a little.
