Re: Melbourne Docklands Tramway Construction

: Construction of Melbourne's Docklands tramway is continuing although in a
: scattered sort of way. The first section is the Westward extension of the
: Flinders Street line - this has been connected to the network for some time now,
: but no overhead. There is extra track in place off-road just to the North of
: Flinders Street a bit further West of the end of on-street track. Evidently
: there will be a swerve in the track to take it to this alignment. Track has
: also been laid across the new La-trobe street bridge over Spencer Street yards
: at the north end of the project. It has not been extended into La Trobe street
: proper nor connected to the network proper yet. No North-South track along
: Footscray Road (sorry - Docklands Boo-lay-vard) is yet in evidence.

The section from La Trobe/Spencer Street across the bridge to Docklands
Stadium will be opened by Feb 2000. The section from Flinders Street West
to the stadium will open later next year. Included in the opening over
La Trobe Street Bridge will be the holding loop for 12 B class trams.

In the section added in Flinders Street West so far is two crossovers one
between the railway and the footbridge (to the temp. cansio) and one just
west of the footbridge. I think this little section will be opened soon
for route 70 trams. There are also changing the tram stops at
Flinders and Spencer Street. Like an extra stop of east bound trams
just after the courner (ie for 48,75 & 70)
