Not a freight train but when I was a kid in Melbourne I used to stow
away on the suburban trains for the ride.
Got caught once by the inspectors during school hours riding back from
Flinders Street to Box Hill in a Tait. I had the door open going through
the rail yards and that was the inspector's first problem. Then he asked
for my ticket. About 1971. Got into terrible trouble. I was with a guy
from my school (Koonung High) and he got into a lot of trouble too as he
had no ticket or excuse for not being at school either.
