The Webb whistle was a far more melodic sounding whistle than the
strangled peeper that's attached now.  Apparently the Webb whistle in
the current position didn't throw the sound forward enough -- from the
side it was magnificent.  Funny really, the whistles worked ok on the
SAR and most US railroads for over half a century.

I wasn't able to get out early on the day but we filmed the TF arrival
into Caulfield then  the whole catastrophe (me, spouse and three sons)
rode the train from Caulfield to Mordialloc and return.  Could've
picked me by red Steam Media Productions shirt and cap.
