That idea has been around for 40 years. Monash University was built on
that site on the promise of a railway within 5 years of opening. :)

The most recent proposal was the Hughesdale - FT Gully railway during the
1980 election campaign.

Of course, these days there's no way it could run through to the Belgrave
line. Can't have too much competition between Hillside and Bayside.
