The Wellington EMUs used to have a sign mounted on the ceiling at the
centre of the coach. One side said Smoking, the other Non Smoking. You
can guess how effective that was! Note that the cars are not air
conditioned.

Then the arrangement was changed to some cars smoking and some
completely non smoking. As a sign of the times I noted that the
grotty, smoke filled cars were mostly occupied by women.

Smoking on the Wellington EMUs was completely banned many years ago.
