Re: Swanston Street

In my opinion, Swanston "walk" failed because of 2 things...

a) here is an absence of shops to a large extent on the east side of the
street, so there is therefore no reason to use the street other than on the
west side.

b) It either needed to go the 'whole hog' like bourke st. mall and be
completely unlike a road, or not at all, not the half arsed widened footpath
(and one 'parking' lane abolished) approach that there is currently.
Basically, the street just isn't suited to a malll, it should be a road,
althoguh, noone really would want to use it anyway, because of congestion,
which is why they closed it in the first place right?

THE SOLUTION...

Close off all the inner city streets to traffic and let 'em catch a tram or
train!
