has anyone else noticed the rather buffer like marks on the front of E2...

Considering the state of '38 (638/738) And that E4 hit the buffer stops (I
think) early this year. Whats going on? do the CityRail drivers have some
sort of deficiency when it comes to coming into newcastle station at a
"speed that would be able to stop the train with the handbrake" or "extreme
caution" or whatever they call it.
