Illawarra Line Obervations

It is not often in recent times that you see two general freight
trains(as distinct from coal trains) in close company on the Illawarra.
At about 7.30pm tonight (Wed 3/11) an NR train consisting of both steel
wagons and BHP hoppers (filled with what looked like sand??)was standing
at Hurstville waiting for a path. The train locos were NR 12 + Nr? +
DL73 + DL74 + NR26, all locos were operating when it later went through
Penshurst. At Carlton a FreighCorp grain with 8183 + 8150 + 8135 was
stopped behind the NR freight.
I pressume the NR train was one of the regular steel trains combined
with the Dunmore(?) blue metal train, but where from and to would they
be carrying sand?
Any ideas
