Tunnels project



Many aus.railers will be aware of the development of this collaborative
project.
The impetus came from posts to this ng; I collated them and added
considerable extra research.

Stage 1 appeared as an article in Sept.99 RNV.

There has already been considerable feedback from the RNV round, but there
was no time to insert it in the text over the last month.

Steven has prepared the web page at:
http://home.primus.com.au/hurste/rail/tunnels.htm
using the stage 1 material.  This has  brought further responses, also yet
to be inserted.

Brian Webber, author of the definitive book on Qld tunnels (still
available, and recommended) has supplied several of his photos for scanning
for the page.

To avoid unnecessary work for posters,
I believe that Tasmania and WA are now complete.  I will try to get these
updates to Steven soon.

The biggest gap is the information on tunnel lengths in SA.

Meanwhile, the result of correspondence with a NZ researcher on the
subject, there is now a list of most NZ tunnels available:
