NR class, final drive whine.



Some time ago there was a thread or three in this group
re the "traction" whine in National Rail's NR class.

Some of the NR class hauling up this way lately are
*really* noisy, I mean HOWL-HOWL-HOWL.

Yes OK, I am an old crusty CR/ANR/AN >> EMD "remember
when", but I sure as hell do not remember any of Clydes
EMD's with noticeable final drive whine.

The CR's NSU narrow gauge class were renowned for their
final drive whine, in fact some SAR fans, smarting from
the ANR takeover, likened the NSU's to Melbourne trams.
  
Just curious why the latest "state of the art"
locomotive should be so noisy below the main frame.
