Re: VR line closing dates needed.

<<<<<Rails _were_ laid on this line, to about a mile beyond Koorakee. However,
AFAIK,
trains only ran from the early 30's to the early 40's, and it was never
officially opened. There were plans to extend it to Lette, but this never
happened. The aim was to use the railway to help open up agricultural
development of the area.
FYI:
Euston station site is an orchard/vineyard.
Benanee station site is relatively well preserved (even a few sleepers still,
IIRC), but it is about a 1km walk from the nearest road.
Koorakee station has very little left; although it is next to a road, we drove
for close to a km along the sandy alignment (in a '76 F100 _2WD_ ex-ambulance!)
before realising we had gone too far.>>>>>>

John, many thanks for the info but now I am confused!

If trains ran on this line for about 10 years how was it that it was never
officially opened? The usual practice was that only construction lines ran on a
line until the opening. I'm sure there was some sort of law that said you
cannot carry goods on a line until it is opened.

I'm sure all of the answers lie in a long forgotten copy of the ARHS digest!

Mark.
