Alice Springs Mayor gives NT Govt a serve, re Darwin line.

The Mayor Andy McNeill said the NT Government had
ignored the "environmental impact" of the line passing
through Alice Springs. He further added that the
Government rejected the Councils report because it was
too late, and he reminded the Government that in years
to come when traffic increases on the line, there will
be considerable resentment. The NT Government has
acknowledged that in the future, trains "may require" a
bypass around Alice Springs.

For those who may not be aware, the present line runs
through Town just like it always has from when the
first narrow gauge chugged into town some 70 years ago.
