I must admit I'd be a bit sceptical of this happening, at least within this
time frame!

But I can foresee the day when the line is single track between Bendigo and
Kyneton, unless freight and passenger services pick up in frequency much on
what they are now.  While there may only be the need for single track for FV
north of Sunbury, there is much more traffic on peak hour passenger
services, especially to/from Kyneton than I would speculate could be
adequately served by a single track.
