Re: Ararat BG connections

Mark.

That proposal has been floated a couple of times. When I was firing at Hamilton
back in 77-79 it was proposed to bypass Ararat, but the it went now further. Then
when I was a Driver at Ararat (85-88) it was proposed again. The problem back in
those days would have been the connecting line would have had to cross the loco
line and the Ballarat line. Now with those lines no longer in use it would be
feasible, and logical to connect the Maryborough line directly to the Maroona
line.

All they would need to do now is bulldoze a formation across to the Maroona line
and lay the track. As far as signaling went, the logical thing would be to extend
the CTC to cover that connection. Even better still, extend the CTC down to
Maroona, that would mean a cost saving of no more person at Pyrenees Loop and no
person at Maroona.

But then again, we are talking about the railways, especially in Victoria and
nothing is logical there.
