Have been used regularly since the mid 80's I think since someone pointed out that
an N set hauled by a single loco went a considerable distance from the restricted
spot to the N board. Nowadays sprinters certainly use them to great effect. I would
suggest without being 100% certain that they were never placed on signal posts.
