For a moment I thought that the "Major Motions" might have been of the
reputed Don Lane glass tables ilk!!!  :-)

1890's train running? Mountains?

In NSW a close match might be 1210 from Canberra (1878 build/19xx
rebuild) with the NSWRTM Thirlmere's Pullman type Carriages (various
build dates around 1902).

Mountains? No distirbance by other trains? ARHS ACT's line Queenbeyan -
Royalla/Michelago seems to suit.
