The problem on Thursday was a delayed Melbourne bound service due to
overhead down at Leumeah near Campbelltown (NSW) and lots of trams
caught up in the melee.

Given the extent of the delay, a better response might have been to
divert via Dombarton or Woodstock (Australia). Caragabal, Lowlands or
Olary would probably have been out of the question.

As to coaches replacing the train, it doesn't happen very often. What
does happen at crush times such as Easter and Christmas is for
supplementary coaches to be operated.
