Long service leave. Journeyed with wife & kids from Sydney to Melbourne,
Adelaide (via Great Ocean Rd), Ayers Rock, Alice Springs, Darwin, Mt Isa,
Normanton, Cairns, then down the coast to Brisbane and back to Sydney via
the New England.

I was generally impressed by the amount of rail action in Queensland rural
areas. A number of trains could be seen being marshalled in Mt Isa and they
were not just ore trains but general freight. Cairns was similar and it
seems to have quiet a few freight trains arriving and departing each day. A
number of comparatively small towns along the Queensland Coast (eg 2000 -
3000 people) still have active freight depots wheras in NSW only Blayney
comes to mind as still having an active freight centre.

Yes it was a great trip!
