I know that this is late but...
That poses the question: Has any individual member of the 830
class operated on all 3 gauges?
In the "good old days" of the SAR, 840 was reputedly allocated to NG then
SG construction trains before being placed on BG in 1970 thus being the
only SAR engine on all three gauges...
Since ANR/NR/ASR, the picture may well have changed. 847,848 and 849 ( the
units which ran in NSW for a few years) were definitely delivered by BG
through Melbourne while 868,869 and 870 I am not so sure of... some of
these units also went to Tasmania in the 80's therefore three gauge was
more common than we might think...
