They did for quite a few years - it was only when The Ghan was refurbished
that the colouring was put down the window line.

It is also grossly inefficient to maintain three complete rolling stock
fleets when the only difference is the outside paint scheme - after all, the
interiors are identical. If each train has its own identity on the exterior,
then when carriages from one fleet finds its way onto one of the other
trains, the whole thing looks silly then. The best way is to have just one
exterior scheme.
