Although I agree with you in part, with the obvious remedy being to build a
larger (and more useful) system, it must be remembered that whilst walking is
fine for the young and fit there are still significant numbers of people who
find walking even short distances quite hard. If you travel on SLR on a
weekend you can see quite a lot of people getting on at Central, paying the
fare (the Pensioner Excursion ticket is not valid on SLR), and travel the
very short distance to Haymarket to go shopping at Paddy's Markets. Some even
alight at Capitol Square!

Unfortunately there does seem to be a laziness aspect also, I know someone
who lives in the south western suburbs who drives into the city, parks at the
cheap parking at the casino, and travels by tram to Darling Harbour (a
stone's throw away) because her husband is just too lazy to walk!
