Re: Violet Town

<<<<<<<(a) the one given by the secondperson himself and evidently accepted by
the enquiries,
i.e. that when he saw the restrictive signals he thought there would be a few
minutes
stop, and this was therefore a good time to boil the kettle (and that when the
train did
not stop, he presumed simply that the signals had cleared)>>>>>>>>

I've never accepted this one for 2 reasons:

He said he came out of the nose and saw the 2 reds of the departure signal over
his shoulder, if this is true, why on earth didn't he put the train into
emergency?

What was he doing in the nose? Drivers that were working at Wodonga at the time
it happened told me that no one ever used the water in the nose for drinking,
it was putrid. Its true there was a tap at the bottom of the water tank in the
nose but the water was for flushing the toilet, never for filling the kettle.
(kettles were provided on B's and S's before hotplates were fitted)

I'd go with the sleep theory except that I can't believe he'd just get a broken
leg if he was on that loco when it crashed, the loco was completely demolished,
the engine even came loose from its mounts such was the force.

Mark.
