Re: high speed tours (was: [VIC] R766 and R711 Ballarat tour.)

This might sound a bit far fetched, but how about an overnight tour one
day? Start at 10pm, finish at 7am, or similar. Photostops taken where
there is small amount of light to allow the most serious of gunzels to
take their time exposure shots, but more importantly listening stops for
the reggie types to record it. Sure, patronage might be down, but it
starts before the last spark finishes, and ends just before the first
sparks (assuming it ends on a Sunday).

Gunzels can adapt to unusual sleeping patterns, I do. Anyway, it would
probably be a one off, but certainly a tour with a difference. With the
few trains that inhabit the night, I'm sure it wouldn't be hard using
80kph cars either.

On a final issue, WHY are the wooden cars now 80kph? I'm pretty sure I
remember doing nut specials years ago on wooden cars at high speeds. What
caused them to be de-rated to 80kph, and would there be any way
whatsoever of reversing this?

Regards
Michael.
