Re: high speed tours (was: [VIC] R766 and R711 Ballarat tour.)

: As for Craigs post re pathing, unfortunately he is correct, pathing is
: becoming more of a problem as more and more facilities vanish, and
: passengers don't appreciate having to spend an hour in a crossing loop
: because the 50mph train falls short of the next station by often only a few
: minutes. Quite often, Sunbury to Bendigo is the section, with nothing open
: in between. If it was ATC territory, beautiful, but it ain't and it sucks.

Sunbury will switch out at night and Sundays. Kyenton can not
switch out and are staffed for all trains.

So you end up with the section St.Albans-Kyenton which is a long section.
(the second train can not leave St.Albans until the previous train has
passed Kyenton complete.)

Same applies to the section Broadmeadows-Seymour and then the only place to
cross trains between Seymour and Wondoga is Riggs Creek. It would
be hard to fit a train into the North East Broad Gauge on a weekend, unless
you are running at 115 km/h.

Just for the record the speed around Dear Park on the double Rs to Balarat
last Sunday was just under 120 km/h (about 30.5 seconds per km).
