Actually 1966 was currency decimalization.  Metrification came a little
later although schools started introducing it about this time as part of the
"New Maths".  In fact the combination of decimalization and metrification
cut so much out of the old maths syllabus, well over 50% at junior levels,
that a whole lot of new material was introduced to fill up the gap.
