AFAIK, the emergency release crossover at Chatswood is not signalled
to allow for regular service Down movements from the Up platform and a
since is not regularly used, would probably be not immediately useable
because of the 72 hour rule.

Gordon is signalled to allow that sort of reversing of direction of
travel movement using the centre road (platform 2) and a Down trains
each day run through Platform 2 to ensure that the centre road to Down
crossover is regularly used.
